Rachel knows what love is.
Its sweet and kind and its the clearest spot
in your mind.
Rachel knows what love is
and when she sees it in someone
she never hesitates to say
hello
And ever so gently she says hello
again
Rachel knows what love is.
and I love her.

The Best Dad on the Planet
written by Lynne Brooks copyright 2006
My dad thinks he's the best dad on the planet
He says he knows he is because that’s the way he planned it.
My dad told me that even when I was just a glint in his eye
That he would do everything he could
And everything he should
To be the best dad to me and that he would
Love me forever and ever
Even when I got in trouble and wasn’t always perfectly good.
According to his plan
My dad found the best woman
To be my mom
And since my mom already knew that my dad was going to be my dad
It didn’t take him long to find her.
My dad brags quite a bit about how he found the girl of his dreams
And when my mom hears him tell the story
Even for the millionth time
Her face lights up and beams.
According to my dad - one day my mom and he
Decided that together they would have me.
For several months or so I’m told
I grew inside my mother
Until I was nine months old.
Then out I came into the world
Apparently not very happily
But there was my dad – the very first person to greet me.
Many years have passed since that day
And I must say my dad’s okay.
My dad thinks he’s the best dad on the planet
I know he is because that’s the way I planned it.

A Love Letter
written by Lynne Brooks copyright 2006
I fell in love with Jennifer even before I saw her face
I must have known her from a different time and place.
She’s so sweet and beautiful and has the kindest heart.
I couldn’t help myself; I loved her from the start.
You know when you love someone so much it hurts?
Well that’s how I feel about Jenny only worse.
This is a love letter to the first girl I ever loved
And now she’s brought me Ava so I have two girls to love.

Ava Clarissa and the Perfect Spot
written by Lynne Brooks copyright 2006
Ava Clarissa
With her mom and her pop
Strolled down the beach looking for the perfect spot to stop
Ava Clarissa
Said to her mom and her pop
This looks like the perfect spot to stop
So Ava Clarissa
And her mom and her pop
Stopped at that wonderfully perfect spot to stop
Down went their blanket
Up went their shade
Out came the sandwiches and cold pink lemonade
They ate and they sipped
They sunned and they tanned
They played all day long on the beach made of sand
They built sand castles
With turrets and tassels
They swam like fishes
And fed seagulls from dishes
They brought kites to fly
And games to try
They saw frogs on logs.
Butterflies and dragonflies
They swam and they ran
They dug for clams
They watched clouds drift by
And boats sail by
The laid down on their blanket and rested
And then
you guessed it!
They did it all over again!
They played and they stayed
Until the end of the day
Ava Clarissa
said her mom and her pop
Thank you
You picked the perfect spot to stop

Christopher JuneBug
written by Lynne Brooks copyright 2006
Once upon a story time
When everything said was spoken in rhyme
There lived the greatest, the best, the lovingest
Bug around
I know some of you think
That bugs are creepy or crawly or just plain stink
But I’m here to say you have misunderstood
I want you to know that most bugs are genuinely good
Sure some bugs creep and some bugs crawl
But that’s just how some bugs get from place to place after all
Now back to our story about the greatest bug of all
The reason that everyone loved this bug
Was because this bug gave the very best hugs
Not only did this bug hug so lovingly well
He asked everyone to hug everyone else as well
Christopher JuneBug loved to hug
Most of all he loved when one bug gave a hug to another bug
So when Christopher JuneBug started a hug
That hug went from bug to bug to bug to bug
Until every bug gave and every bug got
a genuine Christopher JuneBug HUG!

Randy Is Handy

Randy is handy and he’s helpful too
Randy is handy with paper and scissors and glue
Randy is handy with hammers and chisels and saws
Randy is handy with bandages, goop and gauze.
Randy is handy when things need fixing
Randy is handy when things need mixing.
Randy is handy it’s true
Randy is handy and helpful too.
If you need a helping hand
Then Randy is your man
He will help you with the door
He will help you mop the floor
He will help you paint the ceiling
And he will help you when you‘re feeling
Blue
Randy is a friend of mine
Randy helps me all the time
He helps you get done what you need to do
Randy is handy and helpful too!

Would You Be You
written by Lynne Brooks copyright 2006
Just for this moment imagine yourself free
Without all your stories relax and just be
When you start to think I am this and this and that
Try dropping one this and see if you’re still that
At first you may find this game is not easy
You might even feel fizzy and dizzy and queasy
Start with something simple to put you in the game
Think of what you call yourself think of your name
Your name, your name, your name you think and all that it entails
How it looks and how it sounds and all of its details
Now think of you without your name
Do you think you’d look and feel the same?
At first you might think its right to be called something new
Or maybe you think your name is the grandest thing that’s you
These thoughts may be true and I might even agree
But just for this game think deeper and see
Without your thoughts of your name for this game
Would you be you all the same?
Would you be you without your stories you tell?
Would you be you without the work that you sell?
Would you be you if your body was pink
You would be you no matter what you think
You can think right you can think wrong
You can think weak you can think strong
You can think rich you can think poor
You can think till you can’t think no more!
You can think till you think “No More!”
This is the time in the game you might say
I quit this game there’s no point to play
But I ask you please stay and play
Just for this moment just for today
When you’re too tired to go on and too tired to think
That’s when you know you’ve reached the brink
The brink is the place to be brave and leap
Soar through the air and swim in the sea
Be an elephant on the back of a bee
Are you still you floating along with the clouds
Are you still you big and brave and loud
Are you still you tiny and quiet and sweet
You are always you I’m always happy to meet
You are always you no matter what you think
So why not think the best of you
Because the best of you I think

Matt Always Listens
written by Lynne Brooks copyright 2006
Matt always listens to what you have to say
He listens in a very special way
He listens and he listens and he listens until
You have completely finished the words you need to spill
Matt always listens until
All your words are spilled
Until you find yourself perfectly still.
Matt always listens until
You are still
You are so still
That all there is left is to wait for the will
To go on.

Honestly Helen
written by Lynne Brooks copyright 2006
Honestly Helen! Helen heard all her life
Honestly Helen what were you thinking
When you said what you said?
What you were thinking? Were you using your head?
What were you thinking when you said that to her?
Didn’t you think of the wrath it could incur?
Didn’t you think it might make her mad?
Didn’t you think it might turn out bad?
Honestly, Helen replied in her straight forward way
I thought the truth was the best thing to say.
The truth! Do you think that the truth is what she wants to hear?
Honestly Helen, don’t you think the truth will bring her to tears?
You are probably right Helen frankly agreed
The truth might bring her to tears – which might be just what she needs.
Honestly Helen, do you think it’s your place to say
To tell her what happened, what went on that day?
That’s a good question Helen simply replied
She’s my best friend so it’s not my place to lie.

The Great Big Terrible Fight
written by Lynne Brooks copyright 2006
Jim and Joe had a great big terrible fight
Jim thinks Joe is wrong and Joe thinks he is right.
Jim and Joe are brothers who much to their displeasure
According to their parents must share a room together.
Jim and Joe look almost exactly the same
Jim and Joe are twins who share the same parents, a room and the same last name.
The fight broke out soon after - after they were told
That it was now time - now that they were five years old
To keep their room neat and tidy and make sure it was not a mess.
They would need to work together so their room would look its best.
These brothers even though they looked alike
Were not the same at all.
Jim is very neat and clean and Joe is not at all.
Jim has a place for all his things to go.
His blocks are stacked in the corner.
His books are on the shelf.
His teddy bear sits up on the bed proudly by himself.
Joe didn’t care where anything was put
His cars and trucks were scattered with his puzzles and his games.
His teddy bear was stuck under Joe’s toy train.
The fight started one day when the boys came home from school
Jim took one look at the mess and completely lost his cool.
Jim yelled and cried and ranted and raved
“I can’t live in this mess – I’m just not that brave!”
Jim started cleaning all of Joe’s stuff
Joe messed with Jim’s things until they both had had enough.
Then something very strange happened the day of the great big fight
At the very same time they both realized that both of them were right.
Jim is still neat.
And Joe is still not.
But together they’re happy and fighting they’re not.

Karmic Habit
written by Lynne Brooks copyright 2006
Drop that cloak you insist on wearing
Like it’s some badge of honour
You think you have a debt to pay?
You think your private battle will save the day?
The past is the past let it go
Today this Moment is the only show
Yesterday and tomorrow are only thoughts in your head
Be conscious this moment be in now time instead
You think you’ve had a life too sweet?
You think hell is your fate to meet?
Ah you say “it’s karma” in your defence
Really, does that make any sense?
You say you believe in a god so fine
The source, the one, the true divine
You say this god is love itself
Our eternal spring of heavenly wealth
Is this godly love free to get?
Or are there conditions that must be met?
Stop the game of give and take
And accept loves free gift for all our sake
Die to the past this very instant
End your karmic habit
Live now in your light as love
And know the truth is magic

Would You Help Me Please
written by Lynne Brooks copyright 2006
Would you help me please?
I asked the person next to me
There is something that I’m looking for
That I cannot seem to see.
I’m sure I’ve seen it somewhere
Or I’ve heard that it was here
Have you heard of this thing I’m looking for
Or have you seen it anywhere?
Let me please explain exactly what this thing is
They say it is the latest and the greatest
And it makes every job a whiz.
They say it’s been improved
And it’s better than the rest
They say that now they’ve fixed it
To be the very best.
Would you please help me
Find this thing that I might buy.
I’m sure it must be great
Because I know they never lie.
This thing I heard is very reasonably priced.
They say it can do everything
Even slice and dice!
I’m sure it must be here on one of these shelves
Please would you help me look or should I look myself?
What? You have never heard of this thing before.
But they said you sell it here at this store.
I’m starting to get tired of looking for this thing
I think I’ll just go home and forget the whole darn thing.

I Had a Little Knot
written by Lynne Brooks copyright 2006
.
I had a little knot
Who lived inside my hair
No matter what I did
that knot was always there
I washed my hair
I combed my hair
I brushed it till it shone
But no matter what I did
that knot was never gone
As I got older
I got a little bolder
I cut my hair
I grew it long
But no that knot’s not gone
I traveled far
I traveled near
Still that knot would not disappear
I tried out all the latest styles
I searched the most fashionable aisles
Even the best hairdressers for miles
Could not rid that knot of mine
I begged and cried
Magic words? I tried
I told that knot you can not stay
I yelled KNOT just GO AWAY
Then one day I thought to say
Knot I guess you’re here to stay
And ever since that thoughtful day
My knot and I have been okay

Worlds Upon Worlds
written by Lynne Brooks copyright 2006
.
a story about the ego
.
It's so easy to forget Do this do that Keep yourself distracted The ego is a clever fellow Always ready with the latest tactic Oh look at all that you have done You are the best you are the one
No one can do what you have done You and only you are Gods own son
The ego mind struts about With all its pride it loves to shout Look at me I'm the one I am Gods only son
Then with his grandest wave He lifts you up and tell you You are so brave Then he sets you on your finest horse And declares to all the world of course That you are better than anyone You are even better that God - the one
As you sit upon your horse so high Believing with all your heart the egos lie The tricky ego mind is back and Whispers words of fear and lack
At first his voice is very faint You can easily remember you are a saint But then one day you can't ignore His voice so loud so clear he implores Look around you and see what's real He goads you with his appeal
From high upon your horse so sure You take a glance you take a tour Reality is harsh you hear him say It's a dog eat dog world today
Don't worry he says as you worry yourself sick There are others worse off that you - you can lick Let me give you a few words of advice Watch the person next door and don't be too nice
Oh yes he goes on Don't forget Someone always has more that you can get
Convincingly he told me I have your best interests at heart With that he left me alone in the dark
I have so much to do to get back on top Where do I start and when do I stop How did I get into all of this mess It must be someone elses fault, I need to rest
I'll take a pill, I'll have a drink I'm too tired to even think How could they do this to me I screamed out loud I guess I'm not good enough to be part of the crowd
Don't be silly I heard his voice say You can do anything just not today Sometimes it helps to get mad at the world And blame everyone else for your sickly swirl
Spinning and spinning with his voice in my head I quietly called for help from God instead I lay very still and waited to hear The one true voice who in silence is always here
You were created from love and that's all I see I heard Gods voice singing to me You are love so that's all you can create The rest is an illusion and it's not too late Let it all go your fears and your hate Forgive yourself and each other and then relax and wait
Love is what you are Know this to be true Be that love you feel And your world will be renewed
It sounded so lovely so peaceful so right
But I asked sheepishly what of the egos might
Ah the poor ego God replied with a smile
He is your gift of free will
He is your child
Raise him with love and he will serve you well
And together you will create
WORLDS upon WORLDS
Forever Amen
